Reading William Doyle's "Oxford History of the French Revolution" is reminding me how much I enjoy and gain from reading history.

I spent the morning coaching my reluctant correspondent grandson in writing to his aunt in London.
It was amazing how much he had to say, once he got started. This afternoon, I'm trekking over to St. Albans in Albany to hear a friend sing in a local vocal group's concert. Sorry I missed it K!

As I told someone yesterday, I've been wanting to go to the new Asian Art Museum since it opened back in 2003. Today, Drew, the grandson, and I took the BART over and spent most of the morning and part of the early afternoon exploring the galleries.
We hit the special exhibition, the Kingdom of Siam, last, when we were all a bit tired out, so we didn't linger over it as much as we might have otherwise. It might lure me over for another visit before the exhibition ends on May 8.
I really appreciated that the museum doesn't charge for kids 12 and under. Nor do they charge for the audio devices you can use to listen to a recorded explanation of what you are viewing. I didn't find the devices as useful as the discount, enjoying instead the moments of silent reflection on ancient stone faces.

Another day in the basement, and it's a beautiful day. Oh well. Got through my Friday tax submittal blues. Got through another day of deadlines. Life can be lovely. Even just the fact of waking up to face more deadlines can be pleasing, in an odd sort of way, on a beautiful day like today. I got enough sleep last night, thanks in part to bc's gift of zincum metallicum. And, I just realised that my almost constant migraine of the past few weeks has been largely absent today. A brief respite, or light at the end of the tunnel?

Work has captured most of my free time for the past several months. I have been very grateful for friends that occasionally drag me out for beers, and for family that welcomes me when I return home at night. Drew said that he was tired of seeing the same old post go unchanged. "But I like the Incredible String Band", I protested. Still, it's important to listen to your friends!
