Life's been kinda busy of late...but yesterday morning brought a welcome reprieve. After a seven week hiatus, I finally had an appointment with my therapist. Boy, did I have a lot on my mind. Mostly on life, death, sex and power.
Then, early in the afternoon, I went for "hair therapy" with Sandra the Magician, emerging some two and a half hours later, renewed, refreshed and blonder than ever.
Last night, the grand-daughter and I made it over to the Metreon, seeing "Bring It On" for the second time. Hmmmm...I wonder what my ex-cheerleader friend would think of the movie?

Thanks to web queeries, I've been checking in with The World of Jill Matrix. She inspired me to pick up Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower".
It's always humbling when you're confronted with friends knowing more about your issues than you do. Take hormones, for example. (I'd like to.) Thanks to a friend's recent email, I am being more proactive in my research and found this cautionary article useful.
I've also found useful and interesting reading in the Protocols for Hormonal Reassignment of Gender from San Francisco's Tom Waddell Clinic. This and other useful materials can be found at UCSF's HIVInSite, a portal for all sorts of HIV/AIDS information.
I'm also reading Genes, Peoples and Languages by Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza. This paper is a good summary of his research.
From the always useful Red Rock Eater, a recent link to "Richard Ling's ethnographic studies of cell phone use".

From the best laid plans gone askew department....I didn't make it to Saturday's "Queer Dharma" event, choosing instead to focus on a rough mixture of work and web exploration.
There was a cute pic of Laura Dern in today's New York Times (sorry no link). Of course, I loved her do, which is very much like moi's at the top of this page.
This just in: I'm starting to ponder my wardrobe options for this Friday's TG support group.

This Saturday I'm planning to go to "A Celebration of Queer Dharma" which is being held at the Pacific School of Religion. One of the sponsors is the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. In the spring of this year, I attended a previous "Queer Dharma" event at the San Francisco Zen Center.

Haven't had much time lately other than for work. Last Friday, I did manage to make my first visit to the transgender support group at the Pacific Center. I was the only one there in blue jeans. Perhaps next time I'll dress most appropriately. I recogised several faces there from the community. And yes, I felt very supported.
It seems that many in the group are in "human services". One person is planning a center for transgender people. Another would like to develop a transitional house for transgender folk. It surprised me to learn that in the Bay Area there is no specific housing resource for transgender persons. At least as far as I can tell. If you read this and know otherwise, drop me a line.

Just in case you're not checking out The Gate these days Drew, this and that are for you.
This past Friday I began my life as a blonde, thanks to Sandra's magic, a bit of bleach, and just under three hours in Sandra's care. I still have to get a couple pics up. The ones I took didn't quite come out the way I was hoping they would.
From the "thinking ahead" department, I've already scheduled my touch up appointment. Those persistent little black and grey hairs are already popping out.

I got an email from the Drewster this morning, off in the land of the Floridians. I hope he gets his computer up and running soon so I can do my regular checkup via the Diary of Drewcifer!
I've suddenly gone on a fiction binge. I'm well into Muriel Spark's "Memento Mori" and just started Alice Hoffman's "Local Girls" for good measure. And for more serious fun, I began reading R. D. Laing's "The Divided Self" this morning on my stroll down to the BART station.
I've also come down with a bad case of a country music bug...which I do believe I caught at the Karen Black Ho-Down, held recently at the Castro. I don't rightly know if it was due to the seeing the delightful Ms. Black being driven up to the theatre in a pink caddie or the wonderful Arturo Galster >sigh< doing his "Crazy Patsy Cline" show live on stage (loved the shimmering red lipstick, Arturo!). In any case, I'm excited that I'm going back to the Castro this coming Saturday to see one of my favourite films from the 1970's, Robert Altman's Nashville.
P.S. The soundtrack is pretty darn good too! (Right now though, I'm
listening to the new Leeann
Womack CD, "I Hope You Dance".)
