hmmmm...the month of August almost gone and i realise that i've had very little energy to post anything. guess i have the August blahs. maybe next week, come September, when i'll be back on my regular schedule with T, the blahs will lift.
i was up in Napa most of yesterday meeting with colleagues. it was hot! it was nice to return to the overcast and chill of Berkeley and, of course, my wall of file cabinets!
last night i had a pleasant dream involving meeting up again with a former coworker. this morning i awoke to feeling a little less anxious about our friendship, even though contact has been on hiatus.
in spite of the blahs engulfing me i managed to trip over to Moscone with dk and walk around the Linux World Expo. not much in the way of free stuff. aa visited me after her sojourn there. how did i manage to miss out on the combination pens and bubble blowers?
i would indeed be remiss if i didn't mention one of my new fav sites, the informative wood s lot.
it and booknotes are essential reading.

...i have to ask that question, though i already know the answer. mmmm...i can't blame it on the weather, or the workload, or the beautiful sad voice of Sandy Denny filling my office at 7 a.m.-ish.
i had a chance to see a friend last night and didn't. fear of rejection, high anxiety, the lateness of the hour all contributed, i'm sure. but i packed up my work stuff and headed home last night without even an attempt to say hello.
...on the plus side...well there is one, if only i could find it...and to top it off the new film, "The Deep End", doesn't seem to be opening today in the Bay Area.

...maybe 'cause i've been listening to John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band i'm feeling a little bit primal this morning. i have meetings and work work work lined up much of the day, then therapy tonight with T.
on the reading front, i'm being my usual fickle self. quick to start, slow to finish. on the recommendation of a colleague, i'm reading Lonny Shavelson's "Hooked". i remember meeting the author several incarnations ago when he was at work on his book, "I'm Not Crazy, I Just Lost My Glasses". somewhere around the house, we have a copy.
DK's going to Florida next week, far south to the Keys, and as a result won't be back in time to attend the Berkeley Queer Dharma event. but SF says he's going.
...and from the unexpected numero fifty b-day present department, the talented gals at "I Love Lezzie" are making their annual appearance at Studio Rhino, September 20 through October 4 ...and they're also appearing at the La Lesbian Festival at La Pena, early in November.
do not...repeat...do not miss them!...i repeat...

This morn's New York Times magazine had a nice story on the artist Phoebe Gloeckner. Here's another that I found on her web site.

Had a good time with family, friends and strangers last night, up in Tilden Park, watching the stars pop out in the dimming sky, celebrating a friend's b-day, watching deer, waiting for the rising moon, finally getting a ride home in a convertible with its top down, riding down through the hills under the dark August bowl of sky...
So for a brief moment this Sunday morning I am stationed at my desk awaiting the arrival of the g-d, having promised her a movie of my choice and a clothes shopping expedition to the City. And I'm listening to Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention in its Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson incarnation.

My Buddhist oriented spiritual practice is sporadic at best. It usually rises up out of the depths of my procrastination on or about the day of the locally organised Queer Dharma events, then sinks back into the depths shortly afterwards.
Another such event is on the horizon. "Opening the Heart of Queer Dharma" is an all day event scheduled for Saturday, August 25th, in Berkeley, at 103 Mudd Hall, Pacific School of Religion.
You can call Steven Tierney at 415-553-4555 for more information, or email him via Sttierney@aol.com.

Saturday's rolled around and I'm spent. Tonight's a big b-day bash for a dear friend and we're all going up to Tilden this evening to celebrate her and a really good cause!
