Last night Drew and I met up in the City to hear Jill Tarter speak about the work of the SETI Institute, part of an ongoing series of seminars sponsored by the Long Now Foundation. Her knowledge and her passion for the work of searching for evidence of extraterrestrial technology filled the room, and was a pleasure to witness.

bye bye amber brown

I read in the New York Times this morn of the death of Paula Danziger, author of the Amber Brown series. When she was in fourth grade, the grand-daughter was an avid consumer of the Amber Brown books. When her mom decided at one point to move her and her brother up to Oregon, I witnessed the g-d using one of the books as a kind of users manual for coping with the impending move, reading it over and over again.
