november 2007

november. how did that happen?

The days are spinning out of control. Or is it something else? And if so, like the repeating question from a passage in “The Record of Tung-shan that I was perusing this morning, the question is, "what is it?"

Anyway, with the days moving on so fast, I am preparing for Rohatsu sesshin by trying to tie up enough, just enough, loose ends at work. That's why I worked yesterday and why I am working today, some of Saturday, and all of Sunday. Turn on the music. Or the lecture. Yesterday I listened to Philip Whalen, courtesy of that treasure trove that is the Internet Archive. Thanks to Naropa University too, for making those lectures available.

Which reminds me. Next week City Lights Books is hosting a poetry reading tribute bash on occasion of the publication of Whalen's collected poems. I thought I would do a little preparation too, reading Canoeing Up Carbaga Creek, from end to beginning.
