I had a fabulous time at today's Queer Dharma event in Berkeley. The power of presence is subtle, yet very powerful, which is why for me it is the being with part of the being with other lesbian, gay buddhists that always moves me.
I almost didn't go. I almost turned back. Time was tight and I thought I was going to be late. But I worked that through and had a very fruitful day and felt in a way that I haven't experienced before, a deeper connection to a larger queer - buddhist - community.
I have been reading a book by Darlene Cohen, called "Turning Suffering Inside Out, A Zen Approach to Living with Physical and Emotional Pain". She's having a workshop in a few weeks at the San Francisco Zen Center which I'm hoping to attend. The book has been very useful to me and I recommend it.

Looking at the list below, I am holding my head in shame at the movies I left off my personal list! I have to do penance and write more about this later...I must expunge my guilt...but later!

After buying the September issue of Sight and Sound with its multitude of best film lists, I felt compelled to compose my own:

Whether queer, straight, homeless or housed, you really ought to support affordable housing. If you live in Berkeley, you can help by voting for Measure M. If you don't live in Berkeley, you can send money or help out in other ways!

Whew! A long, exhausting, rewarding day at work...at least it has the potential to be rewarding. Hmmmm...I do forget where I came across this link to Elsa's Housebook but I thank whoever it was. "Elsa's Housebook" is the on-line version of a book by Elsa Dorfman, a photographer based in Cambridge, MASS. She's taken some wonderful photos of my favourite bard, Allen Ginsberg.
Her site is so rich. I was especially touched by this and this, both made me reflect on my own sense of mortality, the mortality of others, and the fragility of life itself. It frightens me, puzzles me, angers me...and yes, depresses me that so many are so keen to take life away, purposefully, for this cause or that cause or for just no cause at all. I think I'm feeling that it's all very timely that Thich Nhat Hanh is at the Berkeley Community Theatre tomorrow night and that the Drew encouraged me to attend. Thank you Drew! See you there, friend!

The fabulous folks at I Love Lezzie are going to the Gay Games in Sydney. Help them out by attending a benefit on October 12. Or just send them some money!

And oh the dreams....this morning i woke up, makeup freshened from my visit to the taco bellesque makeup takeout stand...you come up to the counter and the uniformed taco bellesque-ettes duly provide the touch-ups. My hot chile lips didn't require any help, but my blue corn chip eyeshadow did need a refresh....
All this likely because last night the Drew and i BARTed over to the Mission to see "Let's Talk About Me", three one acts playing at the Studio at Theater Rhinoceros. We arrived early, picked up our tickets, then went slumming around the Mission looking for a place to quench our thirst. We finally settled upon Esta Noche, where a show was already in progress. I've been wanting to see the girls at Esta Noche, so lucky us! The girls were great and the drinks weren't bad either.
After slaking our thirst, we hurried over to Rhino and our appointment with the theatre. All the pieces were quite good, but especially ourstanding was the wonderful Arturo Galster as Doris Fish, in "Simply Stunning - The Doris Fish Story".
I have fond memories of seeing Galster at the Castro several years ago when he was in his Patsy Cline incarnation. But that was then and this is now. Arturo Galster as Doris Fish. Simply stunning. But go see before September 29!
